Ingredients

Sweet and Sour Beef

1 lb of Steak (Flank works the best but you can use what you have)

1 Red bell pepper (cut into 1 inch pieces)

1 Green Bell Pepper (cut into 1 inch pieces)

1 yellow onion (cut into 1 inch pieces)

½ cup of pineapple chunks

4 cloves of garlic (minced)

2 tbsp of neutral oil

For the Marinade

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp neutral oil

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp white pepper

2 tsp garlic powder

2 tsp grated ginger

2 tbsp cornstarch

For the sauce

½ cup sugar

¼ cup brown sugar

½ cup apple cider vinegar

⅓ cup ketchup

4 teaspoons reduced sodium soy sauce

Directions

Step 1

Slice the steak in thin strips against the grain then add to a bowl along with the ingredients of the marinade. Mix then let marinate for 15-20 minutes.

Step 2

Chop the peppers and onions and minced the garlic and set to the side.

Step 3

Mix together the ingredients for the sauce and whisk until the sugar is dissolved

Step 4

Heat the oil in a wok or large skillet. Sear the beef for a few minutes per side. Do this in batches.

Step 5

Remove the beef and set to the side then add in the Onions and peppers sauté for about 3-5 minutes then add in the garlic. Once the garlic is fragrant toss in the pineapples and cook for a few more minutes then pour in the sauce.

Step 6

Bring the sauce to a simmer then add back in the beef and simmer for about 10 minutes until the sauce has thickened. If you prefer a thicker sauce add a cornstarch slurry (1tbsp cornstarch and 2tbsp of water mixed together.)

Step 7

Serve over rice and enjoy!
