Ingredients
Sweet and Sour Beef
1 lb of Steak (Flank works the best but you can use what you have)
1 Red bell pepper (cut into 1 inch pieces)
1 Green Bell Pepper (cut into 1 inch pieces)
1 yellow onion (cut into 1 inch pieces)
½ cup of pineapple chunks
4 cloves of garlic (minced)
2 tbsp of neutral oil
For the Marinade
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp neutral oil
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp white pepper
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp grated ginger
2 tbsp cornstarch
For the sauce
½ cup sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
½ cup apple cider vinegar
⅓ cup ketchup
4 teaspoons reduced sodium soy sauce
Directions
Step 1
Slice the steak in thin strips against the grain then add to a bowl along with the ingredients of the marinade. Mix then let marinate for 15-20 minutes.
Step 2
Chop the peppers and onions and minced the garlic and set to the side.
Step 3
Mix together the ingredients for the sauce and whisk until the sugar is dissolved
Step 4
Heat the oil in a wok or large skillet. Sear the beef for a few minutes per side. Do this in batches.
Step 5
Remove the beef and set to the side then add in the Onions and peppers sauté for about 3-5 minutes then add in the garlic. Once the garlic is fragrant toss in the pineapples and cook for a few more minutes then pour in the sauce.
Step 6
Bring the sauce to a simmer then add back in the beef and simmer for about 10 minutes until the sauce has thickened. If you prefer a thicker sauce add a cornstarch slurry (1tbsp cornstarch and 2tbsp of water mixed together.)
Step 7
Serve over rice and enjoy!
